Propagandist Yevgeny Popov was born September 11, 1978 in Vladivostok. While in school, he worked at a local radio station as the host of the “Sackbag” program.<\/p>\n

In 2000, he graduated from the Far Eastern State University, Faculty of Journalism. As a student, he worked at the Public Television of Primorye (OTV-Prim), the Vladivostok State Television and Radio Company, and other local television and radio companies.<\/p>\n

Since 2000, he has been a correspondent for Vesti in Vladivostok and Primorsky Krai. In September 2002, he moved to Moscow.<\/p>\n

Since June 2003, he worked for the Ukrainian bureau of the Rossiya TV channel, where he covered the Orange Revolution in his reports.<\/p>\n

In September 2006, he returned to Moscow and was a political columnist for Vesti Nedeli.<\/p>\n

In May 2007, he became a correspondent for the Rossiya channel in the United States, where he initially worked with Konstantin Semin and was head of the New York bureau of Vesti.<\/p>\n

In May 2013, he continued to work at Vesti as a political columnist. He worked in Kiev on the Euromaidan.<\/p>\n

In the fall of 2013, after the reformatting of the Vesti+ program, Popov took over from Vasily Zhuravlev and Oksana Kuvaeva as host of the authorial program Vesti at 23:00. From July 2014 to June 2016, he hosted the program alternately with VGTRK correspondent Maxim Kiselev. At the same time, he made reports for the propaganda program “Special Correspondent,” among them “Telemaidan,” “Blockade.Slavyansk” and others.<\/p>\n

Since September 12, 2016, he has hosted the social and political talk show “60 Minutes” with his wife Olga Skabeeva, whose main topic is the propaganda of war against Ukraine, creating the image of an “external enemy” in the face of Ukraine and the countries of the West. Popov’s main goal now is to informationally support an open attack by fascist Russia on Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Yevgeny Popov, together with his wife Olga Skabeeva, was twice awarded the TEFI award in 2017 and 2018 for his active propaganda work as the host of the 60 Minutes program, with the title “Host of a social and political prime-time talk show” in the Evening Prime category.<\/p>\n

In 2021 he took part in the elections to the State Duma of the 8th convocation from the party “United Russia” from Kuntsevsky single-mandate district 197 in Moscow. When submitting his election declaration he reported 11.4 million rubles of income for 2020 and concealed 3.1 million rubles of income, which was confirmed by the CEC. He was a member of the “Moscow mayor’s team” of Sergei Sobyanin, who headed the “United Russia” Moscow list in the elections. He won against CPRF candidate Mikhail Lobanov with 35.17% of the vote. According to Lobanov’s headquarters’ calculations, Popov got the advantage due to the results of remote electronic voting, because according to the results of the physical voting Popov was more than 10 thousand votes behind.<\/p>\n

Yevgeny Popov is also engaged in propaganda activities in his telegram channel. Basically, it is creating the image of an “external enemy” and promoting his active “activities” as a deputy of the Russian State Duma.<\/p>\n

As a member of the Russian State Duma, Yevgeny Popov supported an appeal by State Duma deputies to Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the “DNR” and “LNR” quasi-state formations, for which he was included in the EU sanctions list.<\/p>\n

In July 2021, Alexei Navalny’s FBK releases an investigation into Yevgeny Popov and Olga Skabeyeva, in which the pair are credibly accused of real estate acquisitions in Moscow that do not match their income. In his turn, Popov excused himself, explaining the origin of the money for the real estate by the mortgage, but he did not provide any proof of his rightness.<\/p>\n

The infamous propagandist Popov was officially banned from entering Ukraine because of his journalistic activities aimed at propagandizing the war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n<\/div>
