Famous propagandist and “economist” Mikhail Khazin was born on May 5, 1962 in a family of scientists in Moscow. His father, Leonid Khazin, was a researcher at the Institute of Applied Mathematics, and his mother taught higher mathematics at the Institute of Electronic Engineering (now MIEM<\/a>). Mikhail has a younger brother, Andrei, who has twice been a senator in the Federation Council and is a member of the Supreme Council of the<\/a> “United Russia” party<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mikhail Khazin spent his childhood in Moscow. Mikhail studied in the mathematics class of Moscow school \u2116 179, later went to Moscow State University, but he did not get in at the first attempt, and in 1979 he entered the first year of Yaroslavl State University. In his second year, Mikhail tries a second time to study at Moscow State University<\/a>, and he was transferred from YSU to the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics, specializing in statistics.<\/p>\n

After graduating from Moscow State University in 1984, Mikhail Khazin got a job in his specialty<\/a> at the USSR State Statistics Committee. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, after working for a year in a commercial structure, Mikhail returned to the civil service in 1993, already in Russia, as an employee of the Working Center of Economic Reforms under the Government of the Russian Federation. From 1994 to 1997, Khazin worked at the Ministry of Economics of the Russian Federation<\/a>, serving as head of the Ministry’s Credit Policy Department. Khazin also often claims that he could have become Deputy Minister of Economy of the Russian Federation, but his appointment was allegedly blocked because of disagreements between the leadership of the Ministry and Khazin himself about the<\/a> latter’s report<\/a> on the economic situation in Russia. In 1997 he was appointed deputy head of the Economic Department of the President of the Russian Federation, but in 1998 he was dismissed, according to Khazin, allegedly for “unwillingness to compromise <\/a>.<\/p>\n

After retiring from government service, Mikhail Khazin worked as a consultant<\/a> and later became himself head of Neocon<\/a>, an expert consulting company that was engaged in forecasting and liaising with government agencies. In 2015, he resigned as president of Neocon Expert Consulting Company LLC and established his own economic research foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In conjunction with his consulting and business activities, Mikhail Khazin began writing books<\/a> on economic theory, such as “The Sunset of the Dollar Empire and the End of Pax Americana<\/a>,” in which Khazin says that the American-centric system of the world economy will be destroyed. Interestingly, Khazin often published apocalyptic forecasts, which often lent themselves to criticism. For example, he claimed that the 2008 crisis would lead to a decade of severe depression and that people would live in starvation<\/a>, which fortunately did not happen. In 2009 he predicted the collapse of the WTO in 2-3 years<\/a>, which did not happen either. As a result, Mikhail’s economic forecasts, despite his experience and education, look, to put it mildly, incompetent.<\/p>\n

Mikhail also frequently appears on Russian radio<\/a> and is invited as an expert on economic issues to various programs. But in them he speaks not only on economic issues, but also on propaganda topics that are beneficial to the current regime in Russia. For example, on his author show “Khazin Knows,”<\/a> he tells us that Russia’s economy, despite the sanctions and war, is growing and developing, thus supporting a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. But Khazin is best known for his statement on the Russification of Ukraine<\/a>, in which he proposed to occupy and divide Ukraine and resettle its population in the Far East in order to “raise the country.<\/p>\n

It is very unfortunate that an economist and official who has never had anything to do with propaganda before has become a propagandist himself, deceiving people with tales of the imminent collapse of the West and Russia’s economic victories. At the same time in the “beautiful Russia of the present” they legalize “piracy” (violation of copyright) and “parallel imports” to bypass sanctions, in fact smuggling. But Mikhail has already made his choice…<\/p>\n<\/div>
