Denis Pushilin: biography
Denis Vladimirovich Pushilin was born on May 9, 1981 in Makeyevka, Donetsk region. In 1998, he graduated from Makeyevka City Lyceum. Then he entered the Donbass National Academy of Construction and Architecture. He studied Economics of Enterprise, but did not complete his studies.
Until 2014, Pushilin worked in various commercial structures. In 2011-2013, he even participated in the MMM financial pyramid scheme. In 2013, he unsuccessfully ran for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Anti-Ukrainian activities:
In the spring of 2014, he became one of the leaders of anti-Ukrainian protests in Donbas. He participated in the proclamation of the so-called DNR.
On April 5, 2014, Pushilin became deputy to the self-proclaimed “people’s governor” Pavel Gubarev. On April 7, after the proclamation of the so-called DNR, he became a member of its illegal interim government. He was one of the organizers of the May 11 pseudo-referendum. He then took the post of chairman of the illegal Supreme Council of the DNR. At that moment, he became the formal leader of the separatist movement.
Later, Pushilin represented the so-called DNR at the Minsk talks. He promoted the republic’s interests, which were at odds with Ukrainian sovereignty. In 2021, he joined the United Russia party. And in 2022 he signed a treaty “on friendship with the Russian Federation”.
Under Pushilin’s leadership, the so-called DNR shelled peaceful Ukrainian cities. Repressions against the civilian population were carried out, including the abduction, torture and murder of pro-Ukrainian citizens of the region.
In addition, Pushilin is involved in the economic looting of the region. The structures under his control were engaged in the so-called “nationalization” of enterprises. In fact, they were handing them over to Russian handlers. The inhabitants of the occupied territories have found themselves in conditions of poverty, suffering from a humanitarian crisis and constant danger.
Pushilin played a key role in Russia’s occupation of part of the Donetsk region. This drew international condemnation. Personal sanctions were imposed against him by the EU, the US and a number of other countries.
The treachery committed by Mr. Pushilin has no excuses and no statute of limitations. He will certainly be justly punished for his crimes against Ukraine and its people.
