Biography:
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, a proponent of the “Russian world,” liberal and agnostic, is a Ukrainian political technologist and political scientist with pro-Russian views. He was born on December 07, 1946 in Kyiv. He graduated from the Faculty of Physics of the Kiev National Taras Shevchenko University.
Since 1993, he has been Director of the Kiev Center for Political Studies and Conflictology. At different times Mikhail Pogrebinsky was a deputy, a member of the Kyiv City Executive Committee, assistant to the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and worked in the Administration of the President of Ukraine.
Activities:
Mikhail Borisovich was able to realize his interest in politics at the beginning of perestroika. In 1989 Pogrebinsky participated in the election campaign of Yuri Scherbak, a candidate for People’s Deputies of the USSR, and cooperated with the Interregional Deputy Group created at the congress. In 1990, the physicist became a deputy of the Kiev City Council.
Ukraine’s independence in 1991 contributed to Pogrebinsky’s formation and growth as a political technologist. Pogrebinsky Mikhail was an associate of such politicians as Leonid Kuchma, Viktor Yanukovich, and Viktor Medvedchuk.

Anti-Ukrainian activities:
Pogrebinsky Mikhail Borisovich is a supporter of the “Russian peace” in Ukraine. He believes that “Ukraine and Belarus are mistakes of the USSR,” which should be in one state with Russia under Russian control, and that there are no Ukrainians, but only “Russian Slavs.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, Pogrebinsky’s pro-Russian stance escalated. In June 2022, the Security Service of Ukraine was charged in absentia with treason.
The Kiev Center for Political Research and Conflict Studies, headed by Pogrebinsky, constantly studied the mood of Ukrainian society, and the information obtained was transmitted to the Russian leadership to plan policies toward Ukraine.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky systematically prepared policy briefs on the social and political situation in Ukraine and provided proposals to increase Russian influence in society.
In April 2022, Pogrebinsky left Ukraine for Hungary, then returned to his hometown of Kyiv without any problems. But the adherent of the “Russian world” cannot escape punishment. The Ukrainian political strategist has been building up his pro-Russian opinion for years and creating the ground for tension in the country.
