Biography of Alexander Shipov
Alexander Shipov was born on February 18, 1980, in Chita. He graduated from School No. 4 in Marx (Saratov Region) in 1997. He then enrolled in the Engineering Department of the Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne Command School, from which he graduated in 2002.
Thus, Shipov began his service in the 31st Separate Guards Airborne Assault Brigade. In 2012, he was appointed commander of an airborne battalion in the 217th Guards Airborne Regiment of the 98th Guards Airborne Division. In addition, from 2012 to 2014, he served as the regiment’s chief of staff, and in 2021, he took command of the division’s headquarters.
In addition, Shipov studied at the Joint Forces Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. This educational institution is located in Moscow and trains senior officers for the army.
He subsequently took part in “military operations” in Syria, the occupation of Crimea, and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Specifically, from February through April 2022, as chief of staff of the 98th Airborne Division, directed
Alexander Shipov: War Crimes
Alexander Shipov is mentioned on the list of those responsible for war crimes in the Kyiv region, specifically in Bucha, Irpin, and Gostomel. For example, Shipov’s subordinates from the 331st Parachute Regiment of the 98th Airborne Division committed numerous war crimes in these cities.
For example, in early March 2022, on a highway near the village of Zdvizhevka in the Bucha District, Corporal Radik Gukasyan — a mechanic-driver with the 7th Company of the 3rd Battalion of the 331st Separate Infantry Regiment — along with his fellow soldiers, opened fire on a civilian vehicle. As a result, the driver was killed on the spot. To cover up the crime, Radik buried the victim’s body in the forest. In addition, incidents of looting by servicemen under the command of Alexander Shipov were observed in the village of Yablunevka in the Bucha District.
In addition, during the capture of the village of Motyzhin, soldiers from the 331st Separate Infantry Brigade, who were traveling in an armored convoy at the time, opened fire on two civilian vehicles attempting to drive onto the Zhytomyr Highway. As a result, six people were killed—both drivers and four passengers.
In addition, the following individuals have been observed and other units of the 98th Division, which was commanded by Shipov, such as the 1065th Artillery Regiment. Specifically, in 2022, while “patrolling” near the village of Moshchun in the Bucha district, a soldier from this regiment opened fire without warning with an automatic weapon on two civilians who were trying to extinguish a burning minibus. One died at the scene; the other survived by falling to the ground.
In addition, it has been documented that in 2024, units of the 1065th Artillery Regiment carried out an artillery strike on three vehicles belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Verolyubivka, Konstantinovka Community, Donetsk Oblast. The strike occurred while humanitarian aid was being distributed to the civilian population. As a result, three ICRC staff members were killed. Two others sustained shrapnel wounds.

Alexander Shipov: Commander of the 83rd Brigade
Shipov currently commands the 83rd Separate Assault Brigade, whose soldiers have “distinguished” themselves by committing a whole series of war crimes in the Sumy sector. These include the murder of civilians, the torture and execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war, and indiscriminate attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure.
Incidentally, the previous commander of the 83rd Brigade, Artem Gorodilov, was removed from his post due to corruption. However, under Shipov’s leadership, the situation has not changed—reports continue to surface online about systematic extortion and bribery in this unit. For example, in the brigade Service members falsely reported “fake” injuries in order to receive payments and benefits. Specifically, according to the records, Lieutenant Colonel Konstantin Frolov, the head of the special operations group, was “wounded” four times.
In addition, military personnel are complaining against his superiors for extorting money. It’s also interesting to note that, prior to his appointment as brigade commander, Shipov was in debt due to loans. That is precisely why his full name appears in the registries marked as a “criminal.” Incidentally, his family now lives in a luxurious mansion in Meshkovo, Moscow.
Alexander Shipov’s Family
Alexander Shipov’s brother, Konstantin, is also an officer in the Airborne Forces. At the same time, they committed war crimes together in the Kyiv region, albeit in different units — since Konstantin Shipov was then the first deputy commander of the 104th Airborne Assault Regiment.
Alexander Shipov has a father — also named Alexander — who also served in the Airborne Forces with the rank of major and is now in the reserves.. As a result, Shipov Sr. now teaches the basics of life safety at the Arzamas Technical College of Construction and Entrepreneurship.
Little is known about Shipov’s mother, Svetlana. She lives with her husband in Arzamas and has health issues — in particular, in 2023, she complained to doctors of chest pain.
Shipov’s wife, Ekaterina (Vyborova), worked at Pskov Kindergarten No. 4, “Druzhba.” However, there is information that she had mental health issues and run-ins with Russian law enforcement, including for mistreating her own children.
Shipov has three children of his own: Artem (born in 2015), Mikhail (born in 2008), and another son born in 2022. Meanwhile, Mikhail became famous for leaking information about his father to Ukrainian intelligence agencies to prevent details from surfacing online about his non-traditional sexual orientation and his provision of sexual services to wealthy men in exchange for money.
