Andrey Mordvichev: war crimes
According to the SBU investigation, it was Mordvichev, being the commander of the 8th Guards All-Volunteer Army of the Southern Military District, who gave orders to seize Mariupol and storm Azovstal.
On his instructions, the Russian military together with militants of the so-called Dnr prevented the delivery of humanitarian aid to Mariupol residents and the evacuation of residents from the blockaded city. The occupants carried out the so-called “filtering” of civilians, subjecting them to intimidation and humiliation.
As a result of the actions of the occupants under Mordvichev’s command, up to 90% of residential buildings in Mariupol were destroyed. Three hospitals were completely destroyed and another four were seriously damaged, totaling 90% of the city’s hospital capacity. Twenty-three schools and 28 kindergartens were also destroyed.
According to estimates of the Ukrainian authorities, civilian casualties during the fighting for Mariupol amounted to at least 22-25 thousand killed, of which 5-7 thousand died under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
By the end of December 2022, about 10,300 burials in mass graves have been discovered in the Mariupol area. In this regard, the Associated Press agency suggests that the total number of civilians killed could be as high as 75,000.
It is noteworthy that since the siege of Mariupol, Mordvichev has been considered an associate and comrade of another war criminal, Ramzan Kadyrov. When the “Kadyrovites” began to be ridiculed, calling TikTok troops, the head of Chechnya arrived near Mariupol. He hugged General Mordvichev, and the latter said on camera that “Akhmat is really a force.”
After the crimes committed, Mordvichev was promoted to head the Central Military District, replacing Colonel General Lapin, and, accordingly, Group of Forces (GV) “Center. After that, the number of war crimes in the area of responsibility of this group of troops increased many times over.
In late 2023-early 2024, while commanding the troops of the Central Military District, he led the operation to capture and, in fact, destroy Avdeevka. The Russian army suffered unimaginable losses at that time – about 50,000 soldiers, not counting a huge amount of equipment.
After this operation, the Rashists themselves started calling Mordvichev “Avdeevsky butcher”. However, the russian military and political leadership appreciated his “efforts” by awarding him the Gold Star of “hero of Russia” and a general’s saber. .
Mordvichev’s bloody path did not stop there, even on the contrary. Units under his command are now fighting in the Liman and Pokrovsk directions. They are characterized by special cruelty towards civilians, as well as torture and execution of prisoners of war. The occupiers not only do not hide their crimes, but are also proud of them, posting videos of their atrocities online.
In September 2022, the SBU declared Mordvichev a suspect on three articles and he faces life imprisonment. His war crimes on the territory of Ukraine have also been recorded by a number of international organizations. He himself is under EU sanctions.
