Biography of Nikolai Toivonen

Nikolai Toivonen was born October 28, 1959 in Myt village, Pestyakovsky district, Ivanovo region, Russia. In 1984, he graduated from A. A. Zhdanov Leningrad State University, after which he took a job as a lecturer at Petrozavodsk State University. There he also held the position of vice-rector for international relations since 1994.

From 2014 to 2016, Toivonen headed the International Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. He has recently held management positions at St. Petersburg State University, ITMO University, and the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.
