Biography of Sergey Kuralev
Sergey Kuralev was born on October 20, 1977 in Rubtsovsk, Altai Territory. Graduated from the Novosibirsk Military Institute in 2001. In 2001-2003 he took part in combat operations in Chechnya.
He began his service as a reconnaissance platoon commander in the 291st Motorized Rifle Regiment (Borzoi, Chechen Republic). In 2009-2012 – commander of a reconnaissance company, staff officer (deputy commander) of the reconnaissance battalion of the 138th Independent Motorized Rifle Brigade (Kamenka, Leningrad Oblast, v/h 02511) of the 6th Army.
On June 14, 2010, he inflicted bodily injuries on three conscripts and was convicted under Part 3 of Article 286. Following the court’s verdict, Major Kuralev was suspended, placed at the commander’s disposal, and for the next two years was out of state, barred from regular rank and paid minimum wage.
In 2012-2015, Kuralev was a senior officer in the intelligence department of the 4th Tank Division (Naro-Fominsk, Moscow Region, v/h 19612) of the 1st Tank Army.
Sergei Kuralev: war crimes
Since January 2015, he took part in the war against Ukraine, he was deputy chief of staff for intelligence of 2 omsbr 2 AK (Lugansk). Cover name Ermisch, call sign “Snake.”
At the moment Sergei Kuralev commands the 28th regiment of the 70th division. He replaced Colonel Salim Karurov in this position. His unit has held positions on the left bank of the Dnieper River in the Kherson region since July 2023. Kuralev’s subordinates commit war crimes against civilians in the temporarily occupied territories.
Also, units of the 70th Division are taking part in the destruction of residences and critical infrastructure on the right bank. Bombardments of Kherson, Berislav, Kazatskoye and other settlements constantly cause civilian casualties.
