Archbishop Simon (Ishunin) of Brussels and Belgium, 71, was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg – ed.). He studied at the Leningrad Theological Seminary and served in the Soviet Army. He was elevated to the rank of archbishop in 1994.

According to Evocation sources, Archbishop Simon lives in a private house in the elite town of Vsevolozhsk, which is located a few kilometers from St. Petersburg, on Yuzhnaya Street, 32.

Also, as the journalists found out, in 2022 the churchman had debts to the state of the Russian Federation in the amount of almost 36 thousand rubles.

Agent activity

After the establishment of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine independent of Moscow, he openly played along with Russian propaganda, claiming “persecution” of UOC MP believers. He also said that Orthodox Christians in Belgium empathize with “truly Orthodox Ukrainians.

And after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Simon went even further and declared that Russians and Ukrainians are one people. “It’s one people for us, and it’s a great tragedy for us what’s happening there,” he said.
