Ivan Kiy: biography

Ivan Kiy was born on August 17, 1983 in the village of Peretin, Krasnogorsk district, Bryansk region. After school he entered the Moscow Higher Military Command School, from which he graduated in the early 2000s. He built his career in the 37th Independent Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade, stationed in Kyakhta in the Republic of Buryatia, reaching the rank of deputy brigade commander with the rank of colonel. In 2018, he flew on a MoRF flight from Vladikavkaz, probably in connection with a business trip to Syria or the North Caucasus.

The full-scale invasion of Ukraine has opened new career horizons for the Rashist. Torture, murder of civilians and rape are no obstacle to growth in the Russian army. As of 2026, Kiy is the commander of the 6th All-Russian Army of the russian army with the rank of major general.

Ivan Kiya’s war crimes

In March 2022, during the occupation of Buchanskiy district, the deputy commander of the 37th Omsbr Colonel Ivan Kiy set up a command post and a temporary detention center in the village of Vyshehrad. He personally gave orders to search for patriotic residents, arrest and interrogate them using physical and psychological violence.

Kiy’s subordinates broke into the house of the headman of Motizhyn village. The woman and her relatives were taken to the base and tortured. The headman’s son was tortured in front of his mother and shot in the leg. Not having received the necessary information, they killed him with a shot in the head. The whole family died from multiple gunshot wounds. A peaceful woman was shot – the only reason: dark clothes. Two volunteers carrying humanitarian aid to Motijin were captured, tortured, taken to the forest belt and opened fire. One was shot in the head and the other was seriously wounded. Two members of the Patriot organization were tortured, their bodies shot after their deaths. Another resident was tied to an ATV, chased on the run, then kept in a sewage pit for several days.

In parallel, for several weeks, soldiers of the brigade systematically broke into a private house where two women and a little girl lived and committed rapes. Constantly displaying weapons, they took one of the women one by one into the garage. One of them raped her once, the second twice, and the third every day for a week.

The SBU and the GBI identified eight servicemen of the 37th Omsbr and members of the Wagner PBC involved in these crimes. All have been declared suspected under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Kiy, as deputy brigade commander, bears direct command responsibility for the actions of his subordinates.

Instead of a tribunal, Kiy was promoted. Since 2024, his 6th Army has been operating in the Kharkiv direction as part of the “North” group, striking Volchansk and adjacent areas of Kharkiv Oblast, where large-scale destruction of residential infrastructure and civilian deaths have been documented. In December 2025, the rf defense minister congratulated the command of the 6th army on the capture of Volchansk. For mass crimes against the Ukrainian people, Putin awarded Kiy’s army with the honorary title of “Guards”.

Ivan Kiya’s family

Ivan Kiy is married to Olga Serikbayevna Kiy, a native of the village of Raduzhny, Nizhnevartovsk District, Tyumen Region. The Rashist has a daughter Natalia.

While her husband organizes the torture and murder of Ukrainians, Olga spends her time in Telegram and, apparently, is not indifferent to the Ukrainian agenda: she regularly writes in Vitaly Kim’s chat room. Apparently, she follows the news with special interest.
